"The News Girl"

Hey guys,

I know it's been a couple of months since I've been on here... But I have some really exciting news to share!

I turned 25 in January — 25 on the 25th, my golden birthday — and I received the best birthday gift I could have ever asked for. You are looking at the new Arts & Entertainment Editor for the local newspaper... That's right!

*** peep that MEDIA badge tho ***

I started freelance writing for this paper when I was in college, to help beef up my portfolio for graduation. My university's journalism department has a very strict portfolio requirement, and I honestly wouldn't have made the cut otherwise.

After graduating, I continued writing for this paper. I really fell in love with it, and couldn't see myself doing anything else. I freelanced for other businesses, taught classes online, etc., but nothing felt as right as this — I just couldn't let go of it. With time, I started writing more and more.

Mid-January, I received a phone call to come into the office for a meeting. I went in, of course, and was told the Arts & Entertainment Editor would be retiring within the month. On January 26, the day after my birthday, I was offered the position. Again: Best. Gift. Ever.

This is what I've dreamed of doing my entire life. I always knew I wanted to work for a newspaper, and I'm proud to say I stuck through the hardships to get to where I am now. And to think, this is only the beginning.

My new blog URL derives from what my parents always called me... "The News Girl" :) I'm so grateful to finally be living up to that.

As far as content, you can expect some changes coming to the blog. Sure, I'll still share Beauty & Style and Lifestyle posts, but I plan to incorporate a little more of my personal and work life. (Maybe even some video!) I get to do REALLY COOL THINGS with this job on my plate. And I definitely want to share every moment with you.

So hey, thanks for sticking around fam. We did it.
