A New Year: 2018 (+goals)

Wow, wow, wow! It's 2018! I can't believe it's the start of another new year.

The last week of 2017 couldn't have been more perfect. I took most of the week off work to spend time with family and friends, and really just enjoyed time to myself. I rang in the new year at home, in bed, with my cat. And honestly, I wouldn't have had it any other way.

So far, 2018 has been pretty good to me. I've already been organizing myself and getting my priorities in order. There are a lot of things I want to accomplish this year, and I'm doing my best to plan ahead.

My 2018 Goals

I can never stress enough how important I feel it is to set goals. And with a new year in our hands, it's a perfect time to start fresh and start goal-setting!

I have two different types of goals set for myself this year. I want to focus more on my blog and my personal growth. I've already written down some small mile-marker goals, all of which will contribute to my end goal of doing my best in both areas and living my best life. (Cliché, but whattheheck-ever.)

My blog has always been my place. It's like coming home to a house full of roommates, and going to your room to be alone and unwind. You're behind closed doors. You can be yourself. You don't have to worry about what other people think. You can write about what you want, and stay clear of topics you don't want to talk about.

I want to change that. On the Internet, we can be anyone we want by sharing only our most perfect moments. But I hope to use this year to open up and share more of my imperfect self with you.

And as you may or may not know, I am a freelance writer (IRL). I work for a handful of different local companies, writing articles & blog posts, conducting social media & advertising, etc. I have been so fortunate to have had the opportunity to gain so much experience in so many different settings, but I'm ready to take my skillset and apply it to what I'm post passionate about: my own blog.

I spend so much time making other websites look great, and this year I want to put that effort into my own identity.

-Personal Growth

Personal growth is huge for me this year. Like I said earlier, there are so many things I want to accomplish. But before I can look ahead to that, I need to be comfortable with who I am. So this year is all about accepting.

Though you may not believe me — especially based on my previous (teenage) style habits of dyed hair and neon clothing — I've always struggled with the thought of people judging me for who I am. I always wanted to be different, but cool at the same time. But at 25, I just want to be myself.

I DON'T CARE what other people think about me. I DON'T CARE if people don't like my style. I DON'T CARE if my Instagram photos don't get likes. I am who I am, and I am happy with it. And you should be happy with who you are, too.

We hold such high standards of where we should be at certain ages. We should be graduated from college, moved out of our parents' house, holding down a salaried career, not to mention the pressure of getting engaged, married & pregnant. I want to let go of the idea of a timeline and focus on each day. Every single person in this world is different. We are all on different schedules and shouldn't compare ourselves to others. It seems like common knowledge, but we continue to do it.

Success is living a life of love and happiness. Not living by society's standards.
